Squartet is Oblik Soundwork’s statement to what an instrument ought to be: a fun toy.
Out goes the conventional language by which we interact with familiar instruments. No keys, no frets, just a bunch of knobs and faders.
At the core of the machine are four loop tapes and their chaotic simplicity, each equipped with their own playback controls: speed, volume and stutter.
Against the grain
Freed from the constraints of 12-tone instruments, you will be able to explore what is in-between the black and white keys.
The usual layout is meant to throw seasoned musicians off, but the tactile and responsive controls proves it to be a serious instrument after all.
Squartet is more than the sum of its parts: it is an invitation to experiment, to improvise, and to break up old beliefs.
